Is PSN still down? PlayStation service outage leaves PS4 and PS5 players as Sony stays quiet

Send Push

PlayStation gamers are livid about the ongoing PSN outage that is affecting their ability to boot up both single and multiplayer titles o their consoles.

Update: Still no word from Sony, and while the official PSN server status page is showing all services are still down (except for PlayStation Direct) reports on DownDetector (UK, US) are trending downwards. Hopefully that's a sign that PSN is back up and running soon, although it's very odd (and a bad look) for PlayStation not to have updated its playerbase as to what exactly is going on and when PSN will be back. We'll keep you updated if Sony weighs in or the server status page updates.

Original story: Sony is keeping schtum about its PSN servers being down for around for around six hours, at the time of writing. Currently the services affected include Account Management, Gaming and Social, PlayStation Video, and PlayStation Store. The only PSN service left standing right now is PlayStation Direct, so if you want to buy an overpriced PS5 Pro as Sony flounders to fix the PSN outage while saying nothing to its PS4 and PS5 owner base, then you're good at least.

Strangely, Bethesda has at least acknowledge that PSN is down, taking to its

to let players of The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76 on PlayStation know about the PSN outage, and advising them, to keep an eye on the official PSN status page. DownDetector is showing reports of the PSN outage kicking in at around 1am BST on Tuesday, October 1 which is 8pm EDT / 5pm PDT on Monday, September 30 for players in the US.

Affected platforms include PS Vita, PS3, PS4, PS5, Web, and "Other" which may refer to the PS App. At the time of writing, mine is being very uncooperative, so presumably that's down to the PSN outage rather than spotty internet. Some players are a bit wary that the PSN outage may be something more nefarious, especially considering that Sony is no stranger to hacking; in 2011, the company had to pay out millions to PlayStation users whose personal details were exposed in a huge security breach.

We'll be keeping an eye on the @AskPlayStation Twitter account for official word from Sony, as well as the PSN status page, but for now, if you were hoping to join your Battle Brothers in Space Marine 2, or drop into Helldivers 2, you'll have to put your plans on hold. Well keep an eye on the situation as it develops and let you know when PSN servers are back online. And if you're a Hunt: Showdown 1896 player, remember, servers are down this morning for an update so your game is going to be affected either way if you're on PlayStation. And Fortnite is down as well for update 31.30 so once again, PlayStation might be out of the game for longer than everyone else.
