Bad news for arachnophobes: spider season is officially here. Luckily, there’s a cheap way to banish them.
As the UK enters further into autumn, many of us are embracing the cooler weatherby shrugging on comfy knits and sipping spiced lattes. Unfortunately, this is also the time of year when spiders like to make a greater appearance in our homes.
In cooler temperatures, these creepy critters seek warmth and shelter, making their way into our homes and leaving behind their unwelcome webs and an unnerving sense of dread for those with a fear of spiders. Early autumn also marks the start of mating season for spiders, which means you may see greater numbers crawling around than usual.

Cleaning expert Nancy Emery at Tap Warehouse says: "As the sudden rain and cold temperatures bring spiders indoors, our homes provide the ideal environment for spiders to survive the colder autumn weather.
"They also offer a protected space for house spiders to breed during mating season, which allows them to reproduce and expand their population successfully in the warm nooks and crannies of your house."
So, what can you do to safely get rid of them? Nancy suggests one effective way can be to use strong scents to repel the eight-legged insects.
She advises: "Some strong scents are known to deter spiders. A simple, highly affordable, and non-toxic solution is to make a spider deterring spray from water and white vinegar."
The reason why white vinegar can be an effective deterrent is because it contains acetic acid, a chemical which irritates spiders.
Nancy says: "Fill a spray bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water. The pungent smell will deter spiders and make them less likely to settle in your home. Spritz the mix around windows, doors, and any other entry points you’ve noticed spiders entering."
You likely have vinegar lying around in your kitchen cupboard at home. However, there's no need to fret if not, as you can pick up a bottle of Distilled Vinegar from Tesco for 35p.
Of course, not everyone is the biggest fan of the smell of vinegar. you’re not a fan of vinegar either. If you're looking for an alternative, Nancy suggests using peppermint oil and water for "a less offensive-smelling repellent."
