A railway employee’s side hustle in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh turned out to be a front for a disturbing operation that shocked even the police.
Kamal Kishore Nayak, a grade-2 employee with Bilaspur Railways, had been renting out a flat in the upscale Chauhan Green Valley colony for just Rs 500 per day—promoted via OLX and a fake OYO website. But what appeared to be a budget-friendly stay turned into a full-blown criminal investigation after a raid uncovered a stash of suspicious and disturbing materials.
During the raid, authorities seized hundreds of old mobile phones, SIM cards, batteries, used condoms, women's hair, and clippings of railway accident reports. Even more alarming, locals claim that bomb-making material was found at the scene, prompting a forensic investigation.
Suspicion grew among residents due to the frequent movement of unknown couples in and out of the flat. Acting on a tip-off, a young man and woman posed as customers to check out the property. Inside, they discovered a 16-year-old Zomato delivery boy allegedly trapped in the operation. The duo was locked in a room by Kamal when he sensed something was wrong, but locals intervened and called police.
Smriti Nagar police quickly arrested Kamal, who now faces serious charges. Police are probing whether the flat was being used for illegal filming or trafficking, and they are trying to identify all individuals who visited the flat.
Residents are shaken. One local, Nirmala, said, “We never imagined something like this happening in our colony. Now, we’re scared for our children.”
Police have assured that a thorough investigation is underway, including a forensic examination of the seized items and scrutiny of digital evidence. Kamal’s exact motives remain unclear, but officials say the case may widen as new information surfaces.
