On this day, women wake up early in the morning, bathe and dress up, and have Sargi-- which is a pre-dawn meal which is usually sent or made by their mothers-in-law. After sunrise, they then keep a day-long fast and also refrain from having water. Women keep the fast dress up in beautiful festive clothes, usually in red as it symbolises auspiciousness, marriage, and love. They also wear their best jewellery, and bangles, and apply mehendi. In the evening, women get together to perform Karwa Chauth rituals together. When the moon rises in the evening, they pray to the Moon and offer Arghya to it. After this, the husbands help their wives break their fast by offering them water and food.
