The Mumbai traffic police on Friday received a threat message demanding Rs 5 crore from Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The sender claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and threatened Salman Khan's life if the money was not paid.
Mumbai police confirmed the message. "A threatening message has been received on the WhatsApp number of Mumbai Traffic Police, demanding Rs 5 crore from actor Salman Khan to end his long-standing rivalry with Lawrence Bishnoi," stated the police.
The sender warned, "Don't take it lightly, if Salman Khan wants to stay alive and wants to end the enmity with Lawrence Bishnoi, then he will have to pay Rs 5 crore. If the money is not given, Salman Khan's condition will be worse than Baba Siddique."
The police have initiated an investigation into the case.
This incident follows the recent murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique. The Mumbai Police issued a lookout circular for Shiv Kumar Gautam and Zeeshan Akhtar, suspects in Siddique's murder.
They had earlier issued the circular for Shubham Lonkar, and now it includes Gautam and Akhtar, who might flee to Nepal. Information about the accused has been circulated to all borders and airports.
Zeeshan Siddique, Baba Siddique's son, demanded justice and urged that his father's death not be politicized.
So far, the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested four people, while three are still on the run.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured that those responsible for such crimes would be held accountable. "No one will be spared. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty," said Shinde.
Baba Siddique was shot outside his office in Nirmal Nagar and later died in Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on October 12.
