Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Tuesday challenged the Calcutta High Court’s single bench order yesterday, which held that “tainted” SSC candidates would not be allowed to apply in the fresh recruitment process. The appeal was moved before a division bench of Justices Soumen Sen and Smita De today.
In April, the Supreme Court upheld an order by the Calcutta High Court, cancelling the appointment of 25,753 teachers and non-teaching staffers in Bengal's state-run and state-aided schools in 2016. The apex court had ordered to fill up the vacant posts and start fresh recruitment.
The Calcutta High Court’s Single Bench on Monday said that the candidates, identified as "tainted", cannot be allowed to participate in the fresh recruitment process of West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).
West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) have also separately challenged Calcutta High Court’s Single Bench order.
The fresh recruitment process was started for filling up vacant teaching posts in various state-run schools following a Supreme Court order which rejected 25,753 jobs on April 3, this year.
The petitions today were filed at the division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das. Both the petitions have been admitted.
The West Bengal government and the WBSSC have filed review petitions in the Supreme Court seeking reconsideration of the order.
