Thalapathy Vijay's 'GOAT' regains box office momentum with new collection record

Send Push
Thalapathy Vijay's latest release, The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), directed by Venkat Prabhu, is making waves at the box office. In just three days, the sci-fi action thriller crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India, cementing its place as one of the fastest Tamil films to achieve this feat. The movie, which opened with a strong Rs 44 crore on its first day, saw a dip on Day 2 but bounced back with a significant rise in collections on Day 3.

GOAT Box Office Performance

On its third day, GOAT minted Rs 33 crore across India, with the Tamil version contributing Rs 29.1 crore, the Hindi version Rs 2.15 crore, and the Telugu version Rs 1.75 crore, according to Sacnilk reports. This brings the film’s total domestic collection to Rs 102.5 crore. The Tamil version alone has earned Rs 91 crore, showcasing its stronghold in the southern market. The movie recorded an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 72.58% on Saturday, with Dindigul reporting a remarkable 98.25% occupancy, indicating high viewer interest.

Globally, the film is performing exceptionally well, having already raked in Rs 155 crore by Friday. Analysts predict it will surpass the Rs 200 crore mark by the end of the weekend.

Praise from Audiences and Critics

GOAT has been winning hearts, not just for its box office numbers but for its performances, direction, and thrilling action sequences. Fans have taken to social media to share their excitement, with one user praising the film as a "full-on entertainer" and writing, "A pucca VP style fun action entertainer that keeps you hooked from start to end. Full-on entertainment." Another fan highlighted Vijay’s dynamic performance, saying, “Thalapathy Vijay in full form, from playing a comic-spy character to a ruthless monster. It’s a perfect blend of action and entertainment.”

GOAT Cast and Plot

The film features Vijay in dual roles, playing both a father and a son. This is a first for Tamil cinema, where de-ageing technology has been used to depict both characters, a technique inspired by Hollywood films like Gemini Man. Director Venkat Prabhu revealed that the concept of using the same actor for both roles was a deliberate decision, made after he learned about the possibilities of advanced technology.

The film also stars Prabhu Deva, Prashanth, Sneha, Ajmal Ameer, and Laila in key roles. The plot revolves around Gandhi, a former leader of a special anti-terrorist squad, who reunites with his squad to deal with consequences from their past. The engaging storyline and fast-paced narrative have resonated with audiences, particularly in the second half of the film, which is filled with high-octane sequences.

GOAT Global Success

GOAT has also been performing well internationally. In the UK, it collected £527,000 in just two days, prompting additional screenings. In North America, the film earned $800,000 by Saturday evening and is expected to reach the $3 million mark soon. Ramesh Bala, a noted film trade analyst, remarked on social media, "Thalapathy Vijay’s stardom combined with Venkat Prabhu's direction and numerous Tamil cinema references has resonated with audiences both at home and abroad."

With strong performances, thrilling action, and a compelling storyline, GOAT continues to draw large crowds. Sunday’s collections are expected to be crucial, especially in mass-market regions. As the film continues to dominate at the box office, Vijay’s star power, combined with Venkat Prabhu’s unique vision, has made GOAT a blockbuster that is set to break even more records in the days to come.
