Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh were once one of Bollywood’s most talked-about couples, both on and off screen. Despite a major age difference of 12 years, their relationship began with great warmth and affection. After spending time together, the two tied the knot in a private Muslim wedding ceremony in 1991, at a time when their pairing raised many eyebrows in the industry. Their marriage lasted 13 years, but the couple parted ways in 2004. While the divorce was widely covered in the media, it’s only in recent years that close family members have spoken about how the separation affected those around them, including Saif’s younger sister, Soha Ali Khan.

In a recent interview, Soha opened up about that chapter in their lives, calling it “complicated” and emotionally challenging. She recalled the period of transition that followed, not just for Saif and Amrita, but for the entire family. She told Nayandeep Rakshit that when a marriage ends, the impact isn’t limited to just the couple, the entire family experiences a period of adjustment. Over time, each member gradually builds new relationships and finds a fresh sense of balance within the changed dynamics.


Soha also shared how she had a warm bond with Amrita Singh before the separation. “I lived in her house, she looked after me, took me for photo shoots, and we even played Scrabble together,” Soha revealed. But once the marriage ended, there was a clear shift in the dynamics. She described going through a period of “processing and transition” before things eventually settled.

Reports from the time of the divorce suggest that Saif and Amrita split due to personality clashes, lifestyle differences, and financial tensions. It was also reported that Saif agreed to pay Rs 5 crore in alimony and Rs 1 lakh per month in child support until their son Ibrahim turned 18.

Soha noted that with time, the family has found balance again. Now, the kids are grown up, everyone has settled into their own lives, she said. Saif and Amrita’s children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, have both made their mark in the public eye, Sara as a Bollywood actor and Ibrahim gradually stepping into the spotlight.


In 2012, Saif started a new chapter by marrying actress Kareena Kapoor. The couple are a proud parents of two sons, Taimur and Jeh. On the professional front, the duo is doing quite good. While much has changed over the years, Soha’s words serve as a reminder that family relationships evolve, adapt, and sometimes, even heal with time.
