Omar Abdullah's J&K Cabinet passes resolution urging Centre to restore statehood

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's administration passed a resolution calling on the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)-led central government to reinstate statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, according to various media reports.

The decision comes after the inaugural cabinet meeting held on Thursday by the newly-elected CM.

This move highlights the government's focus on seeking greater autonomy for the region.

The erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir was bifurcated into two Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh on August 5, 2019, when Article 370 was abrogated by the Indian government.
