The highly anticipated sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, following the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise, is set to hit theaters on December 6, 2024. Starring Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil, and directed by Sukumar, the film is being produced on a massive budget of Rs 500 crore, making it one of the most expensive films in Tollywood history, as reported by The Times of India.

Pushpa 2: The Rule continues the intense conflict between Pushpa Raj (played by Allu Arjun), who has risen to power as the head of the red sandalwood syndicate, and IPS officer Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil). Ahead of its release, the film has already generated an incredible Rs 900 crore from the sale of digital and satellite rights, according to News18, putting it among the highest-grossing Indian films in pre-release business. Notably, RRR (2021), starring NTR and Ram Charan, also reached the Rs 900 crore mark before its release.

Though no official confirmation has been made by the film's producers, The Economic Times reported that Netflix acquired the digital rights for Pushpa 2 across all languages for Rs 270 crore. By comparison, the digital rights for Pushpa: The Rise were sold to Amazon Prime Video for Rs 50 crore. Additionally, Pushpa 2: The Rule's theatrical rights were sold for an impressive Rs 650 crore, according to News18.

A teaser for the sequel featuring Allu Arjun in a striking new appearance—dressed in a saree with a face painted in intricate designs—has caused a buzz on social media. Initially scheduled for an August release, the film was postponed and will now premiere in December 2024.

At the 2023 Berlin Film Festival, Allu Arjun hinted at the possibility of Pushpa 3, telling Variety that they are excited to turn it into a franchise, with plans already in development. Meanwhile, Pushpa: The Rise currently stands as the eighth highest-grossing Telugu film of all time, amassing Rs 360.8 crore worldwide, as per IMDb.
