Whispers of discord and distance within the esteemed Bachchan family, especially in regard to actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s place in the household, seem to surface with regularity. Despite the passage of time, stories hinting at tension between the former Miss World and her in-laws—most notably, patriarch Amitabh Bachchan—keep returning to public discourse.

As social media speculates endlessly on family dynamics and relationships behind the velvet curtains of Bollywood, veteran actress and iconic TV host Simi Garewal has come forward to offer a powerful rebuttal to the viral conjecture.

The renewed attention began with a video posted by the Instagram account ‘Jagruk Jantaa’, which quickly gained momentum online. In the clip, a female anchor criticized Amitabh Bachchan for frequently sharing public tributes and images celebrating his daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda’s achievements while remaining conspicuously silent on the successes of Aishwarya Rai.

She claimed that Big B posts throwback pictures with his son Abhishek but never makes a gesture of appreciation when Aishwarya is honored—such as when she wins awards or represents India on global platforms. The clip triggered an avalanche of debates about how daughters-in-law, no matter how accomplished or graceful, often find themselves underappreciated within traditional Indian families.

The woman in the viral clip said in Hindi, “When Mr. Bachchan posts a photo with his daughter or an old snapshot with his son but remains silent when Aishwarya Rai wins an award—it says something.” Her comments stirred widespread engagement, with many women echoing similar sentiments about being overlooked in their own homes.

Reacting strongly to the video, Simi Garewal took to social media and wrote bluntly, “You people don't know ANYTHING. Stop it.” Her curt but firm dismissal of the allegations sought to protect the dignity of the Bachchan family, a name revered in Indian cinema for decades.

Speculation regarding Aishwarya’s relationship with the family has intensified in recent months. The actress, known for her poise and elegance, is frequently seen attending public events with her daughter, Aaradhya Bachchan, often without her husband, Abhishek, by her side. This gave rise to further gossip. However, Aishwarya subtly silenced the rumour mill when she proudly wore her wedding ring during her appearance at Paris Fashion Week. The gesture was noted by fans as a quiet yet powerful affirmation of her marital bond.

Aishwarya became part of the illustrious Bachchan family after marrying Abhishek in a star-studded wedding ceremony in April 2007. The event was one of the most talked-about affairs in Bollywood at the time. In 2011, the couple welcomed their daughter, Aaradhya, bringing even more attention to the closely watched family.

While Aishwarya continues to navigate the demands of public life and family expectations, Simi Garewal is preparing for a major personal milestone. At the age of 76, the celebrated actress and host is set to make her debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. She recently shared a video trying on outfits in preparation for walking the red carpet on May 19, representing Satyajit Ray’s 1970 classic 'Aranyer Din Ratri'. She revealed that she has chosen to wear a creation by Indian couture house Karleo, a label known for its bespoke gowns and eveningwear.

While rumours of a rift between Aishwarya and the Bachchans continue to rule the roost on social media, there was once a warm camaraderie between saas and bahu. In an old episode of the iconic talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’, the ‘Guddi’ actress was all praises for Aishwarya.

In a throwback episode of Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan once spoke warmly of her daughter-in-law. “She’s lovely. I adore her. She’s a huge star in her own right, but she fits in beautifully,” Jaya had said, adding that Aishwarya carried herself with quiet dignity and grace during family gatherings. “She doesn’t try to steal the spotlight. She stands behind me quietly, listening,” Jaya noted admiringly.

Despite the noise, these rare moments of affection and solidarity hint that the truth behind closed doors might be far more layered—and human—than the stories spun by social media.
