Axis Bank has announced an update to its tariff structure for savings and trust accounts, with changes taking effect from July 1, 2025. The bank is revising the fees for ATM transactions beyond the free limit for both Axis and non-Axis ATMs. This revision will affect a wide range of account holders, including those with savings, NRI, and Trust Accounts, and certain Priority and Burgundy segment customers.
According to RBI's notification on March 28, 2025, "The ATM interchange fee will be as decided by the ATM network."
"Beyond the free transactions, a customer may be charged a maximum fee of Rs 23 per transaction. This shall be effective from May 1, 2025. Applicable taxes, if any, shall be additionally payable. These instructions shall also apply, mutatis mutandis, to transactions done at Cash Recycler Machines (other than for cash deposit transactions)," the notification states.

An ATM interchange fee is a charge that one bank pays to another bank for offering ATM services to customers. Banks often pass on these charges to users as part of their banking costs. For instance, if you are an HDFC Bank customer and use an SBI ATM to withdraw money and reside in Delhi, HDFC Bank will charge you if you make the fourth transaction in a month at an SBI ATM as an HDFC Bank customer.
Axis Bank ATM charges from July 1, 2025
Starting July 1, 2025, the fee for financial transactions (such as cash withdrawals or balance inquiries) conducted at Axis or non-Axis ATMs beyond the free transaction limit will increase. Here’s a clear comparison:
Existing Fee: Rs 21 per transaction
Revised Fee: Rs 23 per transaction
This increase of Rs 2 per transaction applies to all financial transactions that exceed the free limit set by the bank for your account type.
Free ATM transaction limits from May 1, 2025
RBI has clarified the number of free ATM transactions a customer can make each month, distinguishing between own bank ATMs and those operated by other banks:
In metro cities, customers can make up to three free transactions per month.
In non-metro, the limit is set at five free transactions per month.

HDFC Bank
Metro ATMs: 3 free transactions per month. After that, cash withdrawal is charged at ?23 plus applicable taxes. Non-Metro ATMs: 5 free transactions per month. Non-financial transactions beyond the free limit are charged at ?8.50 plus applicable taxes.
State Bank of India
Starting February 1, 2025, the State Bank of India (SBI) has revised the number of free ATM transactions available for savings account holders across various average monthly balance (AMB) brackets. Under the revised policy, all customers, irrespective of their AMB or location (metro or non-metro), will be entitled to 5 free transactions at SBI ATMs and 10 free transactions at other bank ATMs per month.
