Goa govt implements Unified Pension Scheme for employees

Panaji (Goa) [India], September 30 (ANI): The Goa cabinet has implemented the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) for government employees.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by CM Pramod Sawant on Monday.
Speaking with ANI, CM Sawant said, "In today's Cabinet meeting, two major decisions have been taken by the government of Goa. A unified pension scheme has been implemented in Goa as per the norms of the Central government. "It is a matter of happiness for the government employees."
The UPS assures a lifelong pension of 50 percent of the last drawn salary while under National Pension System (NPS) pension was linked to the accumulated value of the contributions made by the employee and the government during the former's working life.


While the Old Pension Scheme does not entail any contributions from the employee, the UPS requires the employees to contribute 10 per cent of their salary to the pension fund. UPS is set to come into effect from April 1, 2025.
The Goa Chief Minister also announced a ban on land use change in the state.

"...The second major decision taken is that land use change has been banned by the Goa government...," CM Sawant told ANI.
The Cabinet approved an amendment to the Code of Communidade which restricts the change of land use. Comunidade land designated for a specific purpose cannot be utilized for any other objective. (ANI)
