A goalkeeper has lost both his legs following a horrific car crash just hours after a match in Aberdeenshire.

Four teenagers were rushed to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary after emergency services attended the scene of the incident on Union Road in Macduff at around 3am on September 8.

Deveronvale JFC goalie Adam Golebiewski, 17, lost both his legs in the accident after his side had taken on Nairn St Ninian FC on the Saturday. Also in the car was his pal Curtis West, 18, who played in goal for another local side Whitehills FC and he has required surgery on his back. Both were apprentices at a local building company.

Devastated Deveronvale took to social media offering their 'full support' after the horrific incident. The club stated: "After Saturdays win at Nairn, and his own fantastic performance, our young goalkeeper Adam Golebiewski was in a car accident and suffered very serious injuries.

"Everyone at the Club wishes Adam well with his recovery and rehabilitation and assures him he has the full support of the Club going forward. Take care and all the best Adam."

Whitehills Football Club also shared their well-wishes reported the Daily Record. It stated: "We have some news to share regarding our goalkeeper, Curtis West. Unfortunately, Curtis was involved in a car accident last weekend and has sustained a back injury. Our thoughts are with him during this challenging time. We want to extend our heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery, Curtis! We look forward to seeing you back at the Hills when you are fit and ready."

A GoFundMe page has now been set up to support the teenagers and their families. The fundraiser, started by Angela Quinn, has urged locals to “donate what they can”. It reads: "I am starting a fundraiser for Adam and Curtis who were both passengers in a tragic car accident on Sunday, September 8 in Macduff.

"These boys are only 17 and 18 years old. Both boys play football for local teams and Curtis has participated in boxing as well. Unfortunately Adam has lost both his lower legs and Curtis has had an operation on his back. Adam will require adjustments to be made to his house, and I am just looking for some donations to help these boys and their family.

"Adams parents are both having to take time off work at the moment to support their son, so they are all going to have minimal income. I know they are overwhelmed with the support they have been shown in the last week, but I just want to show them that the local community are thinking of them.

"We are planning a few different fundraisers in the future. Please donate what you can and share this page." The fundraiser has raised over £7,000 in support of the teens, with many sharing their love and best wishes. St Marnans FC wrote: "In times like these, communities show their strengths, this time to support the youths involved in this tragedy, wishing each of them well and all the very best on their individual recoveries."
