'Work colleague didn't invite me on a night out – I got the ultimate revenge'

Send Push

A manager got “brutal” revenge on a colleague after not receiving an invite to a work night out.

We spend a lot of time at work and, if lucky, colleagues can quickly become friends we’d actually like to see away from the workplace. A staff night out or social gathering is a firm favourite for establishing camaraderie and, to quote everyone’s favourite manager David Brent, it can be “good for morale”.

But when you’re the only one not invited to accompany colleagues to paint the town red, it can sting and allow anxiety or, in some cases, resentment to build. This proved to be the case for one person, who took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to confess their sins.

Popular account Fesshole allows people to share their darkest secrets and worst antics anonymously, letting the public to judge freely.

One person took the opportunity to confess the retaliatory actions they inflicted on a staff member once they were promoted to a management position. They said: “A work colleague didn't invite me to a night out he'd organised, despite nearly everyone else at work being invited.

“He claims he forgot, but I know he doesn't like me. When I became his manager and was told I had to make savings, I forgot to renew his contract."

Fellow X users were quick to share their thoughts. One person quipped: “Now he really doesn't like you."

Another said: “This is why you ALWAYS invite the nerds. Just in case!” While a third commented: “Every action - reaction."

One simply said: “Brutal." But others were less than impressed with the manager’s behaviour as one wrote: “Perhaps he saw this petty, vindictive streak in you way before you became his boss, hence his dislike."

And another said: “Yeah, this sounds like the type of person who people deliberately wouldn't invite to the night out.”

Some saw the funny side, with one fan of the story simply commenting with a string of laughing face emojis, while another said: “Best served cold, good work!”

And another added: “Well done mate, an abject lesson on always be mindful of those who could be your boss.”
