A 60-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a "wonderful" dad by dangerous driving after braking harshly on a rural road.

Alison Cooper, from Loggerheads, Shropshire, admitted to the offence at Chester Crown Court on Thursday. The court heard she was driving her red Ford Fiesta home from work on the A500 near Barthomley village in Cheshire around 4:45 pm on June 16, 2022, when her sudden braking caused 29-year-old Chris Parsons to take "evasive action". His black Renault Clio veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a blue Seat Ateca travelling in the opposite direction. Mr Parsons was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cooper is due back in court for sentencing on November 8, reports Wales Online. In a tribute issued by Chris' family at the time, they described the dad-of-three as a "wonderful son" and "loving father", who "would go above and beyond for absolutely anyone".

The tribute said: "Our beloved Chris sadly passed away on Thursday 16 June 2022 aged 29 years old. Words can't describe the heartache we as a family are going through. He was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and loving father to his three amazing children who he will be sorely missed by. He was an amazing, kind, caring wonderful person who would go above and beyond for absolutely anyone."

"We will not be making further comment as we still are yet to find out the conclusion of the investigation to determine exactly what happened and we kindly wish that our privacy as a family is respected at this time. Rest In Peace Shifty, fly high, gone but never forgotten."

Cheshire Police said they hoped that the incident would make "people think carefully about their actions behind the wheel". Det Con Lisa Evans-Hill from the serious collision investigation unit said: "This was a dangerous action on a busy road with fatal consequences. This decision to brake, caused not only Chris's family's lives to change forever that day, but Mrs Cooper's as well."

"I hope it makes people think carefully about their actions behind the wheel. Everyone should be aware that when they get in a vehicle, they have the potential to cause real damage and even take a life. You have not only your life in your hands but other road users and this needs to be remembered every time you make that journey. Please drive carefully and safely for everyone's sake."
