British officials have issued an urgent product recall for a dangerous air fryer that could catch fire.
The Office for Product Safety and Standards is warning users to stop using the Pro Breeze 2L Air Fryer straight away as a technical fault could put it at risk of catching fire. The fault causes the air fryer - which is available on online retailer Amazon - to overheat, leaving it vulnerable to igniting.
The office issued the recall after concluding that the model does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016. The Pro Breeze air fryer range has products that range in price from £90 to £120, with one specific unit reportedly affected by the potentially dangerous fault.
The affected air fryer has a model number is AF-03-UK and barcode of 5060596022409, the 2L also has an Amazon barcode of X0014E52NJ. The alert applies to all batches sold between September 2020 to February 2022, including the numbers 20061101, 20061102, 20101001, 20101002, 20120903, 21012603 and 21031540.
The firm has called on customers to immediately unplug the air fryer from its main power supply and urgently return the product. The Office for Product Safety said in its alert that the fryer "presents a risk of fire as it is possible for the internal components to overheat and ignite".
Issuing the recall notice, Pro Breeze said: "Pro Breeze is recalling a specific model of air fryer due to a technical fault that can cause the electronics to overheat under certain conditions, posing a risk of fire. Owners of the affected Air Fryer are requested to comply with the following safety notice. Pro Breeze asks all consumers to verify if their Air Fryer is subject to this safety measure."
Those who need to return the product must complete a recall registration form found on the Pro Breeze website. Once this is complete, the firm's customer service team will review the form and email about the next steps within 20 working days. The product is the second within a month recalled by the office due to a fire risk, with officials having also recalled the ElectriQ CD10L Dehumidifier (2408-0029) on August 20 due to a circuit board fault.
