Fans of The Only Way Is Essex can look forward to a cosy night in during the Christmas season.

The popular reality show has reportedly landed a movie-length Christmas special, packed with drama and feuds. It comes two years after their December one-off was axed. Viewers were left disappointed two years ago when it was confirmed that the Christmas edition of the series called The Only Way Is Essexmas, was not returning to screens.

Confirmation of last year's scheduling shake-up was made by the show's star Ella Rae Wise during an Instagram Q&A with fans. She shared with fans: "Unfortunately not this year." Ella then added a series of broken heart emojis, illustrating her sadness. The show has propelled the careers of a number of stars including Sam and Billie Faiers, Mark Wright, Pete Wicks, Gemma Collins and Joey Essex over the years.

And now, it has been claimed that the series will be making a very festive return to our screens, with the episode being on air for 90 minutes and will feature the main cast. An insider claimed: "The latest series of Towie has been a huge hit and there has been a lot of drama," with them adding that it 'made sense' to bring it back.

A source added to The Sun: "It’s a movie-length episode and fans can expect some real festive fun, romance and probably a few feuds." The Mirror has reached out to ITVBe for comment.

Two years ago, an insider told the publication that the cancellation of the Christmas special could have an impact on the future of the popular reality TV show. They told the publication: "They were all told that the scheduling didn't work out and the budget is being spent on other things, but it's left them all feeling really nervous about the future of the show.

"It's not a good sign for the series in general if bosses have decided it doesn't make financial sense to film the celebratory one-off." Meanwhile, this month, TOWIE star Jodie Wells was asked if there were any plans for a comeback during a Q&A session with her followers on social media.

She replied to them: "With how the series ended I feel a Christmas special would be amazing."
