Supermodel Georgina Cooper died following a sudden change in health while she was on holiday in .
The model was a friend of star and a part of the 'cool Brittania' movement of the 1990s and was Georgina had recently swapped vows with her husband Nigel - with the couple getting married at a ceremony that took place this year in June.
On Friday it was revealed that Georgina and Nigel had been staying on the Greek island of Kos at the Marianna hotel apartments when she suddenly fell ill. Her health declined on 21 October and she was rushed to the island's main hospital where her condition was determined to be so severe that she needed to be flown by air ambulance to a better equipped hospital on Crete.
After five days of medical teams battling to save her, the model tragically passed away and her body was returned to the UK this week. Friends of the model have been left devastated by the news of her death and the circumstances around her passing.
While an official cause of death has not been revealed, those close to her have shared details of her last days. Her former agent, Dean Goodman told the on Friday: "She loved Greece and told me that she was going back with her new husband - but she has tragically died there a fortnight ago.
"Georgina had been unwell during Covid and had developed some health problems and had been in and out of hospital. But she had plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everybody is devastated. She was a genuine superstar."
Georgina had been talent spotted by a modelling agency at the age of 13 and appeared in a Bon Jovi music-video when she was 15. She walked the catwalk for British fashion designer Julien MacDonald in 2000, and was reportedly a close friend to catwalk icon Kate Moss.
The model retired from the runway after becoming a mother and focused instead on raising her son, Sonny, while she most recently worked in hospitality in Kent. She said in a 2018 interview: "After I had my son I just couldn’t bear to leave him alone and I wanted to be there for him. I tried to continue modeling but it broke my heart when I had to leave him for work. I focused on modeling assignments in London but my life was at a crossroads and I decided that Sonny came first."
Supermodel Erin O'Connor has been among those paying tribute to Georgina online. She wrote: "Gorgeous George.... Shocked and devastated to hear you are gone. You were an incredibly kind and funny human-being, Georgina. I/we all admired and loved you so much for the warmth, generosity and gentle mischief you brought to the .
"Many years have passed since we (our little 90’s britannia pack) hung out together during the mad carousel era known as ‘show season’ - but, you ALWAYS stuck out to me for keeping it real and being proud of who you were. What an almighty life you led.. Full of spirit and endless, inspiring humility. You will never be forgotten. Phenomenal woman, wife, daughter, mum and friend; my thoughts are with your family, especially your beautiful boy. Hugs and condolences to all.. RIP brave heart."
