Scottie Scheffler gives clear answer on him and his wife introducing sex ban

Send Push

Scottie Scheffler couldn't help but chuckle when asked whether he'd consider imposing a sex ban with his wife.

The 28-year-old American sealed the second major of his career in April after clinching victory at the Masters. His wife, Meredith, didn't attend the tournament at Augusta National as she was over eight months pregnant, and threatened to pop mid-competition.

Scheffler vowed to duck out and rush to his partner's side if she went into labour, no matter the circumstances. But luckily for the New Jersey-born star, it was another three weeks before his son Bennett arrived. However, the situation led some to wonder whether players ought to plan the birth of their children around the golfing calendar.

Big events usually take place between April and October, so sex bans could help stars with burgeoning families avoid missing key tournaments. But Scheffler didn't seem too keen on the idea.

On the , the World No. 1 couldn't help but chuckle at the suggestion of steering clear of bedroom antics during peak season to dodge another Masters nail-biter. "Not quite," Scheffler said when asked if he'd consider an intimacy ban.

"It's pretty difficult to have babies, so whenever the next one decides to show up we'll be pretty grateful.", reports the Express.

Sex bans are not a rarity in the world of sports. Many top boxers have been known to abstain before big bouts, and football managers, like ex-England boss Fabio Capello and Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, have also imposed bans for their players at certain times.

Continuing, Scheffler opened up about how fatherhood has given him a fresh outlook on his career. "Part of [being a father] has helped me mentally because golf can be tough and sometimes we can be our own harshest critic," he said.

"When it comes to how I'm performing on the golf course, sometimes when I get off the course after a tough day I'll kind of look at myself and be like, 'If this was Bennett in here, what would I tell him after the day?' And so, part of that has been really helpful.

"And then when you get home, it's one thing for your parents or Meredith to say that don't care what you shoot, but at the end of the day it means a lot to me. But when you get home and you see Bennett, and he sees you walk through the door and he's like, 'Hey man, what's up?' you surely do just forget about everything else. It's pretty amazing."
