Music icon fumes Oasis 'can't catch a cold outside of England' in scathing outburst

UB40 star has criticised ahead of their upcoming tour as he said the band "can't catch a cold outside of England."

The guitarist, 69, took aim at the Britpop band in a new interview, criticising the industry's lack of admiration for his own band. He said: "It's annoying. They always talk about Oasis and how big they are, but they can't catch a cold outside of England, really.

"We probably sold twice as many records as they've sold – and we don't get that recognition. In documentaries about music of the Eighties, might get mentioned in passing at the end of Part Two – whereas Madness, The Specials, Adam and the Ants get more cover than we do."

The total record sales figures for UB40 are estimated to be between 70 million and 100 million - and while the UK is the biggest market for Oasis, the Gallagher brothers have also shifted around 75 million records globally. As part of their upcoming tour, they will also be travelling abroad with 38 sold-out stadium shows in the UK, US, Australia and South America.

But UB40 is also enjoying a renewed success, having sold out at Wembley Arena, and Robin said of their resurgent popularity: "It's what should have been happening for the last 15 years." He then went on to blame past management as he said: "Somebody else was in charge, and they weren't doing a brilliant job."

It comes after Oasis revealed they will be performing more dates on their reunion tour. They will kick off their comeback tour on July 4 next year at Cardiff's Principality Stadium. Oasis will then perform in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin before heading to North America. The band have already sold dates out in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Toronto and Chicago.

Oasis recently confirmed they will be heading Down Under for a string of dates in Melbourne and Sydney, . On Tuesday, the band have announced more shows to their tour. They will be performing in Argentina for two nights at Bueno Aires' Estadio River Plate, before heading to Chile, then wrapping in Brazil next November.

The tour announcement marks the band's first performances in South America in 16 years and their back-to-back Buenos Aires performances also mark a special return to Estadio River Plate. Oasis shared the following messages with fans in each of the three countries.

To Argentina: "People of the great nation of Argentina. Oasis are coming home to The River Plate. Be there." To Brazil: "People of Brazil. Carnival has come early. Fix up. Look sharp. Oasis will see you soon." To Chile: "People of Chile get ready, the brothers are coming."
