Gavin and Stacey chaos as filming for Nessa's hen do ends in complete disaster

Filming for the special episode of Gavin and Stacey hit a bump when torrential rain ruined a scene.

The cast has been busy filming for the fan-favourite show in recent weeks with fans noticing them getting into character in multiple locations in Barry, Wales. And now, the cast, including Ruth Jones, Joanna Page, Julia Davis, Alison Steadman and Melanie Waters, were seen filming outside a restaurant at a different location.

However, the film crew had to be quick on their feet as heavy rain started pouring and ruined their scene. Ruth and the ladies were seen continuing their scene under a made-up screen. It is rumoured they were filming Nessa's hen do as they were seen glammed up and arriving for a night out.

Ruth (who plays Nessa) went on all with a mesh-patterned black shirt, a classic belt and a red leather jacket. Joanna rocked a summer look with a floral dress and a light red denim jacket. Julia looked chic in a simple black cardigan and a cheetah-print scarf. At one point, the ladies looked around as they watched the rain put a damper on their scene.

Meanwhile, the film crew were decked out in black raincoats. It was announced earlier this year that the BBC sitcom will return at Christmas for its first new episode since the last special aired in 2019. Filming began earlier this month in Wales and various cast members have been working on the acclaimed show's awaited return in Barry in recent weeks.

Last week, it was revealed that filming in the area had concluded. Footage previously posted by fans on TikTok showed writer Ruth, 57, addressing crowds on location on Trinity Street during the final day of filming in Barry. She was seen beside co-creator James Corden, as well as co-stars Joanna Page, Melanie Walters, Rob Brydon and Robert Wilfort, on the street.

Ruth, who was dressed as her character Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins, shared her gratitude to the fans for their support. She also expressed hope that they "won't be disappointed" when the special airs in just over three months.

She told the crowd: "Thank you so much for standing here today and being so patient. You haven't seen anything because we've been indoors, which shows that you are truly committed fans of the show and we hope that you won't be disappointed on Christmas Day when all will be revealed."

The star added to fans: "This is our farewell now to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won't be seeing us here anymore but we've had a wonderful 17 years. It's been fantastic."

TV presenter and actor James, who created the award-winning sitcom with Ruth, also thanked fans for their support. He said: "Thank you very much for everything everybody, we'll see you soon."
