Ayrshire crash: 'Much loved' barmaid with 'infectious smile' killed in horror smash

A barmaid with an "infectious smile and huge personality" has been named as the victim of a in Ayrshire.

Alana Muir, 27, died following the on the A71 between Newmilns and Darvel shortly after 11am on Thursday involving a Ford Focus Zetec and a silver Mercedes Vito. Paramedics who arrived at the scene could not save Alana who was driving the Ford.

She has been by her loved ones who have been left absolutely devastated by the news. Staff at Darvel Bowling Club, where Alana worked, said: "Our committee and members are devastated at the loss of our barmaid and friend Alana Muir.

"Alana was always eager to help and with her huge personality made such an impact within our club to both members and visitors. We shall sorely miss her cheery, smiling face and the brightness she brought with her. We would also like to pass our deepest condolences to her family and friends although words just don’t seem enough. Yesterday we lost a friend, heaven gained an angel. Fly high sweet girl."

The Railway Inn in Darvel added: "We are completely shocked and heartbroken to hear of the passing of Alana. This girl was the life and soul of any party. She was a beautiful young girl, adored by us as her colleagues and our customers. She had a true heart and helped anyone who needed it. Her infectious smile and huge personality will be sorely missed.

"Alana, you really were one in a million. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. We love you Alana." People also took to social media to express their sorrow with family member Ashley Muir saying: "Fly high my angel, my wee bestie. Go up there and be the wee mammy you've always wanted to be and give my dad a big hug too. Love and miss you so much Alana Muir."

Caitlin Hamilton said: "Rest in peace Alana, cannot believe this has happened to you. It was not your time at all back with your wee boy harry now until we meet again." Lyndsay Dunnachie added: "Rest easy beautiful girl you were loved so very much. Always have a special place in my heart, you had the purest of hearts that’s for sure. Spread your wings angel."

Emery Pink added: "Absolutely heartbreaking. So sad. Such a lovely girl inside and out taken way to soon. Thinking of all the family and friends." A 24-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Ford, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Crosshouse University Hospital in Kilmarnock also with non-life-threatening injuries. The road was closed for crash investigation work before re-opening at around 9pm and officers are appealing for information, reported the.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at what is a difficult time for all. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.

“In particular, if you were driving in the area at the time please check your dash-cam to see if you have anything that could help with our investigation.” Anyone who can assist is asked to call on 101, quoting incident number 1148 of Thursday, October 17, 2024.
