Mikel Arteta has been given the worrying news that following his injury, with the Gunners facing title rivals later this month.

The man suffered an unfortunate injury as he twisted and fell on his left ankle. Odegaard bore the weight of the incident not just in his ankle but visibly in his eyes, as teammates gathered around to offer support.

After the match, Norway's coach Stale Solbakken dropped a hint of concern towards Arteta in light of Odegaard's injury, noting to the press: "It looked bad in the dressing room too. He didn't have the nerve to continue. It is not certain that Arteta will call me tonight and praise me."

  • Further insight came swiftly, with the national team's doctor sharing details during a TV2 interview where Ola Sand remarked: "He got a small ankle sprain. We will see, maybe we use ultrasound to look at it. If we are unsure, there will be an MRI tomorrow."

With the October international break looming and questions arising over his possible return, Arteta handed realism over optimism, suggesting a comeback before then would indeed be a 'surprise'

In his contribution to the club's matchday program, Odegaard conveyed optimism about his recovery. Penning his thoughts, Odegaard remarked: "In the last week or so I've made really good progress.

"I'm getting better and better by the day and feel it's going well. When you feel like things are moving forward, it gives you motivation to do more and more and work harder. Today is our last game before another international break, so that gives me some more time to work on the rehab, too.

"Hopefully it won't be much longer - I think we will know more as soon as I get out on the training pitches and we see how my ankle responds to that. At the moment it's progressing well and it looks better than we were thinking, but we've still got to take every day as it comes."

Yet Norway manager Solbakken has tempered expectations, suggesting Odegaard is not close to returning to the fray. Reported in Tuesday's Dagsavisen, Solbakken implied patience is crucial, asserting: "There is great progress in relation to pain and injury, but he is a long way from playing matches."

The Norwegian tactician indicated that Odegaards recovery remains under Arsenals watchful eye at their London Colney training ground. And when quizzed about a comeback timeline, Solbakken's response was uncertain: "I don't think anyone knows that, and I don't think he knows it himself either."
