Amanda Holden didn't waste time in replacing her 18-year-old daughter who has headed off to university.

The presenter, 53, has adopted a puppy following Lexi fleeing the family nest, and showed off the latest addition to her home on Wednesday. Amanda had revealed on Monday her intention to get a new member of the family after she said her emotional goodbyes to Lexi.

Now, Heart FM's official Instagram page has shared Amanda's newest bundle of joy on their grid. In a sweet clip, Amanda is seen rescuing the abandoned puppy from Battersea Cats and Dogs Home. In the upload, Amanda is heard explaining the first time she met the pooch, whose name is yet to be revealed.

The video shows the animal licking Amanda's face. The audio hears the star explaining to her radio show listeners that she has her new pet by her feet. "I went to Battersea, got out the car. Walked into the building and she came out of her little holdall and she licked all my foundation off," she gleefully said. "You know, I wouldn't take it from anyone else," she joked before continuing: "But this little scrap is just so gorgeous."

Amanda went on to say the animal had been "so well behaved," as the upload continued to show the cute first meeting of the pair. She then made a plea to listeners: "If you're thinking of getting a pet, obviously think carefully, but think about rescuing or fostering. There are so many that need a home."

Her public plea was well received by her fans too, with one user gushing: "Having a celebrity promote rescue is so fantastic for rescue centres all around the country, local rescues don’t have much support, please adopt, donate and volunteer." Another said she should be Paul O'Grady's replacement on For The Love Of Dogs.

The adoption comes after Amanda broke down in tears and 'went mad' at husband Chris Hughes after she dropped Lexi off at her new home. Recalling the emotional moment, Amanda said: "We took Lexi to university in a van with... you know those massive Ikea bags? We had about 11 of them and two full suitcases, and you go into the accommodation and it is like a luxury prison cell, isn't it?" However, while she moved the items, hubby Chris was watching the Everton game, leaving Amanda frustrated and fuming at him, asking "can you do something?".
