Vijayawada: A 45-year-old moneylender named Bachu Yesubabu was brutally murdered in Suryalanka of Bapatla. The assailant, who remains unidentified, slit Yesubabu's throat and fled the scene.
Despite severe bleeding, the victim managed to ride his two-wheeler for a short distance before collapsing near shops close to the beach.
Yesubabu, originally from Kothapalli near Mopidevi in Krishna district, had been living in Karumuri Hanumantha Rao Nagar colony in Bapatla for the past 20 years. He was engaged in the moneylending business and was out collecting interest from traders in Suryalanka when he was attacked near the Air Force station.
Determined to survive, Yesubabu rode his two-wheeler with a scarf wrapped around his neck to control the bleeding. However, he eventually collapsed near the marine police station road, pleading for help. Locals immediately called for an ambulance, but tragically, Yesubabu succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
DSP G Ramanjaneyulu and Bapatla rural circle inspector K Gangadhara Rao rushed to the scene to investigate. Eyewitnesses reported that before his death, Yesubabu repeatedly mentioned the name "Chanti," a young man who had recently been assisting him in collecting interest. Chanti has been taken into custody by the police for questioning. Yesubabu's body was sent to the Bapatla Regional Hospital mortuary for further examination.
